Roel Meijers

Roel Meijers is a director at Strategy Works, an international strategy consulting and coaching firm, specialized in facilitating boardroom decision-making and guiding companies through processes of strategic renewal (www.strategy-works.com). He is also lecturer in strategy at  Strategy Academy, an international research and training company, dedicated to improving companies’ competences in the areas of strategy, leadership and business innovation (www.strategy-academy.org).  

After studying Dutch Language & Literature, Literary Theory and Philosophy, Roel Meijers lectured for 10 years at the Rijks Universiteit Groningen. His main field of competence was the methodology of scientific research, in particular applied to the scientific study of literature and historiography. His research focused on the problem solving strategies scientists use.  

In 1989 he left the academic world and started a career as management consultant at one of the predecessors of Cap Gemini Ernst & Young. Initially his consulting practice focused on management information and governance. Over the years his practice developed towards the areas of strategy, management counselling and organisational change & restructuring. He worked in several markets (consumer products, retail, industry, public government, health care) with a main point in the financial services industry. Besides mid-sized consulting assignments regarding governance and management effectiveness, Roel has been leading large scale and complex organisational restructuring projects for Capgemini. In 1997 Roel was appointed as manager of the business unit Consulting within the Financial Services Division. Under his leadership the business unit developed towards a well recognised consulting practice with a co-operative culture and a strong consulting methodology. In 2003 Roel left CGE&Y and started his own independent consulting practice and became an associate partner of Strategy Works/ Strategy Academy. In 2007 he joined the board of Strategy Works/ Strategy Academy Roel Meijers is involved in all training, teaching and consulting aspects of the firm. He translates his leadership and management skills into individual coaching of executives, and is involved as a lecturer in various teaching programs, among others at the University of Maastricht. He is also one of the core strategy consultants, in which capacity he has facilitated a large variety of management teams in their strategy process. Within these projects, Roel has leveraged his experience in strategy formation, change and implementation.
